Mixed lot (3 items), Kuba (or Bakuba), Dem. Rep. of Congo: three old vessels, made out of wood, coloured black, with typical Kuba patterns. Two bowls and a small bottle. - Tribal Art

1: A large, round bowl made of wood. With a handle, projecting rim, an all-round band of typical, geometric Kuba patterns; semicircular base, without foot. The bowl was used for mixing redwood powder (for red dye). There are remains inside.
Height: 7.4 cm; diameter: c. 16.5 cm (above).

2: A small, deep, round wooden bowl, for mixing redwood powder (remains inside). Central high foot, with five points at the side. The exterior decorated with typical, geometric Kuba patterns in relief. A fibre cord with two feathers and a pierced cowrie shell is tied around as decoration under the projecting rim.
Height: 8 cm; diameter: 7.7 cm (above).

3: A small, bellied bottle made of wood, with neck and decoratively carved wooden stopper, as well as with two lugs for suspension, carved from the same piece at the side. The vessel is decorated with typical, geometric Kuba patterns on the exterior and on its flat base. An age-related crack to the wall of the vessel at the right. Otherwise no damage to all three, long used objects of daily life.
Height: 12 cm.
