Dan, Ivory Coast, Liberia: two bangles, with rattles added on the outside. One with four larger size rattles, the other with twelve smaller rattles.

Gurmanché, Burkina Faso: two typical, heavy bangles of the Gurmanché, with a simple twisted knot in the middle and geometric engraving before both open ends.

Senufo, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso: two bangles (arms and ankles). A so-called ‘snake bangle’, with a snake added in relief, displaying a round, decorated disc on its body. With fine decoration on the entire bracelet, cast and engraved. In addition, a simple, oval and undecorated ankle bracelet of the Senufo people. Bent on both short sides.

Gurunsi, Fra Fra, Kassena, Burkina Faso: a type of bangle that is found in the territory of these three tribes in southern Burkina Faso. Both sides are expanded into large triangles.

Djerma, Niger: two bracelets of the Djerma. A heavy ankle bracelet made of copper, with dense, inset spiral decoration on the outside and almost spherical end pommels. In addition, a small bangle made of copper.

A so-called ‘manilla ring’. Since the 15th century, beginning with the Portuguese, such round cast, small copper bars were introduced into West Africa, where they were used as ‘currency’ for trade, and as ornaments.

Between the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. (ME)
