A Javanese shortsword, type: ‘Pedang lurus’, with a long, slightly curved, double-edged blade forged from local iron in a multilayer pamor technique. This type from Java often displays European import blades, but the present one is an old, local pamor blade. The round, slightly curved handle, the short cross guard and the bivalve wooden sheath are enveloped in very good quality, heavy silver sheet metal. The handle is densely decorated with leaf and floral tendrils, the sheath with leafy tendrils and geometrical banderole décor (chased and engraved). A beautiful, typical and large piece, without considerable damage.
Length: 64 cm.
