Prof; sun of the portrait- and history painter, master draughtsman, and lecturer at the Dresden Academy, (Friedrich Rentsch 1792–1856), master class of E. Hähnel; Ernst Julius Hähnel, sculptor, professor, Dr. h. c., (Dresden 9.3.1811–22.5.1891 Dresden), from 1880 freelance work at the Meissen Manufactory.
