West Persia (Iran), c. 431 x 313 cm, at the end of the 19th century Mahal carpets, which had once been the most affordable carpets because of their coarse knotting, met the taste of the time with their pastel colours and large ornamental patterns, becoming more expensive as a result of increased demand from America; especially sought-after were those manufactured by the English company Ziegler & Co.; the present representative of this group is in good overall condition despite slight signs of age and use, the brown slightly oxidised, repairs to the upper end, the side edges rebound.
