Giovanni Battista Ranieri del Pace
(Pisa 1681–1738 Florence)
Saint Vincent Ferrer,
oil on canvas, 30 x 22.5 cm, framed
We are grateful to Pierluigi Carofano for confirming the attribution on the basis of a photograph. He believes that the present painting may be a modelletto, datable around 1709 and typical for the artist’s working practice. In this period he was stylistically strongly influenced by Sagrestani and composed the paintings for San Jacopo Soprano in Florence. The flame atop the figure’s head appears as an attribute of Saint Vincent Ferrer, presented as a Dominican friar.
