Hans Schließmann, painter and draughtsman, Mainz 6.2.1852-14.2.1920 Vienna, from 1866 education at Xylographische Anstalt R. von Waldheim in Vienna. Later worked for the magazines 'Humoristische Blätter', 'Kikeriki' and 'Fliegende Blätter'. His illustrations show vernacular scenes from Vienna, he painted glasses in various techniques. Due to his education with R. von Waldheim he mastered the technique of calking. In some of his glasses, the contours of the depiction were first applied by calking and then painted with transparent enamel paints. His 'SchattenrissSilhouettenmalereien' were painted in black enamel paint without calking. Famous persons from the fields of arts, politics or daily life were caricatured by him. His main period of work was 1880-1910. Some glasses are marked on the base with the company mark of the Viennese glass trader E. Bakalowits und Söhne.
