The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Brigita Anguiano, widow of the artist.

Raul Anguiano, eclectic painter, sculptor and muralist, worked together with renowned post-revolutionary artists such as Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Diego Rivera.
A longtime friendship and collaboration also linked him to the writer Angelo Colleoni – the cover of whose novel “Il Cristo nero” was graced by a work by Raul Anguiano. The work “Christo negro”, which is unusual among Anguiano’s works, can be associated with this novel.
He painted it in 1975 during his sojourn in Italy and gave it to Colleoni as a gift.
