Still life of fruit with grapes, a lemon and a wine glass,
signed at lower right: H: v Streek f.
oil on canvas, 63 x 47.5 cm, framed

Hendrick van Streeck was the son and pupil of Juriaen van Streeck, a painter of still lifes. He was also apprenticed to the church painter Emanuel de Witte. The entry regarding the painter in Lexikon der Holländischen Stilllebenmaler im 17. Jahrhundert reads as follows: ‘Via his training under his father, Hendrick van Streeck was under the direct influence of Willem Kalf. Yet in contrast with Kalf and Juriaen van Streeck, his compositions show sober orthogonal arrangements similar to the paintings of Jan Jansz. van de Velde […]. His brushwork, which when looked at in detail proves to be highly painterly and liberal, especially when it comes to light reflections, ultimately reveals Hendrick van Streeck to have been an extremely skilful painter.
