Brussels (Netherlands), c. 325 x 300 cm, mid-16th century, a mixed party eating pork joint outdoors with a town in the background, the border decoration is an important indicator of the item’s age and place of origin, the borders follow the style of the Italian Renaissance in their considerable width and decoration with bundles of flowers and fruit, animals and medallions with imbricating round rods made of laurel leaves, all of which suggest dating the present hanging to the mid-16th century; this piece is not trimmed and entirely preserved, the figures at the centre of the image are already heavily faded, several repairs due to age, mounted on linen on the back; since it was kept in Viennese private ownership over the past fifty years, a professional cleaning is recommended.
