A “Haberfeld” table, designed by Adolf Loos, - Design

manufactured by F. O. Schmidt, Vienna, after 1899, mahogany, brass sabots, the top with a brass surround and inlaid with tiles, inscribed: SHERWIN’S PATENT/LOOK BACK/TRADE MARK/ENGLAND, six legs, height 66 cm, diameter 86 cm. (DRAX)

Adolf Loos used this table model and variations of it several times, such as in 1899 for the seating area in the family living room of the art historian and writer Dr. Hugo Haberfeld in Vienna’s 8th district at No. 53 Alser Straße. He subsequently resorted to this furniture item time and again, for instance in 1901, when he furnished the Stoessl apartment in Vienna’s 13th district at No. 235 Auhofstraße.
