A very rare, early lidded tankard from Hamburg. The Kremlin Armoury in Moscow has 7 tankards by the Hamburg master Franz von Dort I. The engraved dedication reads: "Dem gutherzigen Alexander Adolfowitsch Etholen, mit Respekt und Dankbarkeit von Jakovlev." Alexander Adolfowitsch Etholen, son of the renowned Russian Navy officer, explorer and administrator of the Russian American Company in Alaska, Arvid Adolf Etholen.
