The present painting is accompanied by certificates (in photocopy) issued by Cornelis Hofstede de Groot and Leo van Puyvelde (as Peter Paul Rubens).
In 1606 Adriaen Baecx van Baerland was appointed president of the Collegium trium linguarum at Leuven University, and he became rector in 1619. Around 1624 he retired from his official duties and went to Oorschot near s’Hertogenbosch.
