Karagashli Soumak Bag Face,
East Caucasus, c. 60 x 97 cm (incl. frame c. 77 x 114 cm), late 19th century, facing side of a former transport or storage bag in woven soumak technique, the forked leaves executed in white cotton are so-called sadjayad motifs, which were very popular especially in the East Caucasus in the 19th century, the general effect is determined by the charming contrast of white and dark blue, very good condition, mounted on linen and wooden plate, a very similar piece has been published by Besim.
