Tüllü,
Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 185 x 100 cm, early 20th century; the red and black pattern colours look modern against the beige, natural colour ground and originally had a role in ritual incantations; since collectors began to appreciate these carpets with reduced pattern only very late, old pieces are hard to come by in situ and rare to find on the market; consistently very high and shaggy pile wool, fringes at both ends, braided in the corners at the bottom.
