In Vladimír Kopecký’s oeuvre there is a fascinating contrast between the various dimensions of his works. In the 1960s, he coined the term “ugly” glass – he created brutal objects out of glass, rails and bricks, on which he wildly poured streams of fiery colors. In contrast, in his later work, he let the glass stay minimally clean and clear, pasted into a simple geometric shape. As the author himself says: “I like absolute silence as well as a cosmic storm.”
The work on offer, Hopelessness, suggestively evokes the feeling of tragedy after a traffic accident. The broken glass from a car suggests the irreversibility of the event. In this work, the author used glass that has been semantically and artistically destroyed.
