Keshan, the Iranian city between Tehran and Isfahan near the Dasht-e Kavir desert is known for its woven carpets of excellent quality already under the Persian Shahs of Safi dynasty (1502-1736). After a period of decline, production of high quality woven carpets was restored at the end of the 19th century.
