Baluch Bag Face,
Northeast Persia (Iran), c. 83 x 132 cm, early 20th century, knotted half of a former double bag with woven back part; these pieces, also known as “birdbags”, with horizontal rows of rooster or peacock motifs, emanate a special charm; as is also the case with the present specimen, one animal figure is usually designed in white wool; the front is heavily worn, with very low pile wool, several moth holes, and edge damages.
