Collection Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome.
A comparable drawing with the St. Peter baptising the Centurion Cornelius was offered through Artcurial Paris as „attributed to Giacinto Calandrucci“ on 13th February 2018 (lot 202). Another drawing with the Assumption of Saint Mary which resembles the one in the upper part of the present sheet was sold through Tajan Paris on 12th February (Lot 56). A technically and stylistically comparable drawing by Calandrucci which shows a study for the painting „The Transfiguration of Christ“ in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and is executed in black and white chalk, is preserved in the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf (Inv. FP 2051).
The attribution to Giacinto Calandrucci was confirmed by Prof. Francesco Petrucci on the basis of a high-resolution digital photograph.
