The "Graf Zeppelin" airship as a symbol of technical progress over Vienna, 1929, vintage photograph, gelatin silver print, verso photographer’s copyright stamp, 17.7 x 13.2 cm, inscribed with pencil, in the corners remains of glue due to former mounting
On 28 March 1929, the airship flew over Vienna and the Tower of St Stephan’s Cathedral on its return from its Oriental Journey. Despite the early hour, at 3 o’clock in the morning, it was enthusiastically welcomed by thousands of Viennese from the rooftops. Radio greetings were exchanged with the radio station in the Tower.
