Tibet, c. 140 x 75 cm, 19th century. An early meditation carpet with a realistic depiction of a powerful Indian tiger on yellow ground. Subsequently, Tibetan tigers were designed in a more abstract manner around the turn of the century. Beautiful patina, with corroded brown pile, in original condition. (VP)
