A Head of Venus,
white marble, naturalistically sculpted in the round, the back with fragmentarily engraved inscription: “…..XXVI…..AVORO….IE….MARSURE….NONE”, probably 1836, Lavoro, ANTONIO MARSURE Pordenone, on a supplemented base, height (without base) c. 45 cm, small losses to the nose and curls, signs of age. ANTONIO MARSURE was born in Pordenone, Italy, in 1807. He spent his apprenticeship with his father between 1825 and 1829, and then entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Among his teachers was Luigi Zandomeneghi, a student of A. Canova. Some of his works are preserved in the municipal collections of Pordenone.
