The sisters Ladomirskaya were the illegitimate children of Countess Ekaterina Petrovna Stroganova (1754–1815) and her lover Ivan Nikolaïevich Rimsky-Korsakov (1754–1831). Countess Stroganova was a personal friend of the painter Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun (Paris 1755–1842) whom portrayed Varvara Ivanovna Ladomirskaya (1785–1840) around 1800, this portrait is currently in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no. SL.1.2016.13.1).
