A rare Lega figure 'Kakulu ka Mpito'.
Wood, fur, 27 cm high. These stylized figures were made for initiates of the Bwami society. Pastor 'Baba V', born in 1907 as Vinton Samuel educated himself since his arrival in the Congo in 1928 as a medical expert on Tropical medicine. Many of the objects in his collection were given to him by former patients as thanks to his treatments. (VJ)
