The present pastel is a copy after the famous portrait of von Dorothea Schumann (1744), which is preserved in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Inv. P168) today. The portrait painting was copied several times by several artists in the 18th century. See: Neil Jeffares, Dictionary of pastelists before 1800, London 2006, p. 377.
