1: Tunisia: a very old pair of earrings in a flat style, which harks back to Byzantine examples. The semicircular silver plate is decorated with three hemispheres, a rhombus and volutes made of silver wire. It has a semicircular attachment that is placed into the earlobes of the woman.
Height: each c. 7.5 cm; width: each c. 6 cm.
2: A second, old pair of silver earrings from Central Asia (Kazakhstan, North Afghanistan): crafted in the shape of rosettes, with some residual enamel. In the middle of each earring sits a round, red underlaid glass stone. Both pieces have three pendants below and above a hook made of silver wire to place into the earlobes of the woman.
Height: each c. 9 cm (with pendants).
Both pairs of earrings: Between the 19th and the early 20th centuries. (ME)
