Michael Neher was a German genre and architecture painter of the Biedermeier period. He attended the Munich Academy from 1813 where he was taught by court painter Matthias Klotz (1748–1821) and genre painter Angelo Quaglio the Elder (1778–1815). After his artistic education, Neher travelled to Italy in 1819 where he remained until 1825. He spent the last two years in Rome where he dedicated himself to architectural painting, at the studio of artist Heinrich Maria von Heß (1798–1863). In 1825 he returned to Munich where he settled and worked in his own studio.
