Provenance: "Galeria Carlo Virgilio/ Roma / Viale di Lupa 1988“ due to a handwritten inscription on the back of the mount, afterwards in a German private collection. Othmar Brioschi was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus and Professor at the Accademia di San Luca. He created effectful and atmospheric landscapes mainly in the surrounding area of Rome. First he studied at the Vienna School for Applied Arts with L. Quaglio, from 1874 onwards at the Academy with Ludwig von Löfftz and with Gustav Schönleber in Munich. Until 1882 he had a special education in landscape painting with E. Peithner von Lichtenfels in Vienna. He moved two Rome because he was granted a two-years award in 1884 and remained there until his death.
