Antependium,
Bohemia/Austria, c. 109 x 145 cm, 19th century, metal embroidery in bouillon technique on a three-piece silk velvet with attached border on the front, brocade borders on the short sides, mounted on linen, the embroidery features the Christ monogram “IHS” in the aureole as well as a cross and a heart with three cross nails, lower left a brocaded ownership mark reading “Emilie Mautner 17/4 1856”, the present piece is most likely an ecclesiastical gift to Emilie Susana Mautner von Markhof (17.04.1838 - 28.03.1887) on her wedding day (she married Julius Reininghaus on her 18th birthday, on 17.04.1856).
