Jan Griffier d. Ä.

(Amsterdam 1645–1718 London) A wide river landscape, signed and dated lower left: Griffier pxt. 1700, oil on canvas, 82 x 105 cm, framed,

In his early years Griffier, a pupil of Jan Looten, painted views of London and surroundings from a wine ship, and then, although he had never been to Italy, he turned his attention to Italian veduti with ruins. Orient and C. G. Schütz the Elder.
