Tüllü,

Tüllü, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 164 x 115 cm, mid-20th century, Tüllü carpets (the word Tüllü translates as ‘long hair’) were used by Kurdish shepherds as sleeping rugs, the present specimen features beautifully stacked, stepped mihrab gables with Kochanak crests in undyed white and brown wool; the carpet consists for the most part of wefts with only few rows in knotless netting, but since the ground threads are very long the foundation is completely covered; in good condition with braided warps at both finishes.
