Lit.:
Thieme-Becker, vol. 22, p 361: Edouard Lanteri, sculptor, (Auxerre 1.11.1848-22.12.1917 London), student of Aimé Millet, Cl. Guillaume and P. J. Cavelier in Paris. 1872 assistant to J. E. Boehms in London, 1874 succeeds J. Dalous as a lecturer at the Royal Art School. From 1885 almost annual exhibits at the Royal Academy. His works, including character heads influenced by the work of Rodin, are on display at the Tate Gallery and also at the Victoria and Albert-Museum. His position as an instructor gave him considerable influence on contemporary British sculpture.
