"Le chene et le roseau", 1927-30/1952, etching on laid paper (Montval), signed Marc Chagall, additionally signed in the plate, from the edition of 100 impressions on Montval in a larger format, sheet 12 of the series 'Jean de la Fontaine, Fables', plate size 29.4 x 23.5 cm, sheet size 42.3x 33.8 cm, created at Vollard’s behest and printed between 1927-30 by Maurice Potin/Paris, but not published until 1952 by Tériade Editeur, formerly Collection of de Poortere B. M. B., stamped on the reverse (not in Lugt), Cramer of 22, lower margin with carefully closed, barely noticeable tear (c. 6.5 cm), (RAC)
