CONTEMPORARY ART TRIUMPHS

Dorotheum scores soaring prices for works by CoBrA group artists, Kippenberger, Scheggi and others

Dorotheum achieved outstanding prices on 22 November 2017: Among the top-selling artists at 'Contemporary Art I.' were Paolo Scheggi, Georg Baselitz and Heinz Mack, for sales of whose work Dorotheum has a strong record (€405,600, €247,000 and €247,000, respectively). Works by artists of the avant-garde 1960s CoBrA group were in high demand, including Asger Jorn's striking oil painting 'Brokigt brak - Patchy quarrel', whose €466,600 price tag was the auction's highest.

An untitled painting by Martin Kippenberger that is a self-portrait in the broadest sense garnered €430,742, a significantly higher price than its estimate. Maria Lassnig and Arnulf Rainer topped the billing for Austrian artists.
