IMPRESSIVE RESULTS FOR SCHIELE AND ARCHIPENKO

Review Modern Art, Auction 25th November 2014

The Modern Art sale on 25th November 2014 saw Dorotheum's major November auction week in Vienna get off to a flying start. A charcoal drawing by Egon Schiele depicting a seated nude, originally from the estate of the artist’s sister, achieved € 405,600 – an excellent price for a drawing of this period. A highly sought after bronze “Head” by Alexander Archipenko, also the main highlight of the auction catalogue, sold for € 283,600. Other notable works from the sale included pieces by Balla, Jawlensky and various examples of the fantastic realism genre.
