The present work is a fine example of Lebourg’s view of the Seine and the emblematic monuments along its banks. The artist depicts a view of the Seine showing the Trocadero building in the background. The Pont de l’Alma joining the left and right bank is set in the centre of the canvas, crossing the Seine horizontally.
The river remained one of Lebourgs’s key subjects when depicting the city of Paris. Indeed, he painted numerous views of the Seine that showed various bridges and monuments, such as Notre-Dame, in the background. From Paris to Honfleur he painted the river in every season and at different hours of the day.
