Kwele, Gabon: a piece of 'iron money' from the Kwele, anchor-shaped.
The Kwele (or Bakwele) made use of such forged iron ‘primitive money’ in the typical shape of an anchor, as value objects and as pre-monetary payment of bride price between families. A perfect example, with good old patina. No damage! Height: 50 cm; Width: 40.5 cm; first half of the 20th century. (ME)
