A gloriole, Nepal, 19th cent. or earlier
A horseshoe-shaped gloriole made of pierced, carved wood, partly painted red, partly gilded, intended as the surround for the figure of a Buddhist divinity. To each side, an elephant, a leogryph with a rider and a makara arranged one above the other, to the apex, Garuda flanked by two apsaras. Traces of wear. Height: 22.8 cm. (BA)
