A finely crafted Moroccan curved dagger, ‘khoumiya’. The blade is made of local iron, offset twice and double-edged, forged with a slight curve. The hilt consists of precious, reddish-brown wood. Set in good silver engraved with leafy tendrils and flowers on the hilt ring and on the upper end. The sheath (made of wood) is likewise cloaked in good silver, with cartouches and cast, punched and engraved border decorations consisting of leafy and floral tendrils, terminating in a twisted bud. With an original, plaited carrying cord on two silver rings. A relatively small, but very finely and elaborately crafted, complete ‘khoumiya’, with visibly old usage patina. No age-related damage, excellent condition. 19th century to the first third of the 20th century; L: 31 cm. (ME)
