Tibet, Nepal: ‘Green Tara’ figure, silver-plated and gilded.
The ‘Green Tara’ is one of the goddesses who helps people in Tibetan Lamaism. She is recognizable by one half-opened lotus blossom or bus, whose stem she always hold in her hand. In the present ‘Green Tara’, this half-opened lotus blossom is visible on her left shoulder. To her right side is a lotus in full bloom. The figure also wears a crown with three small glass pearls (or imitation stones). She sits on a double lotus plinth in the gesture of a helpful bestower of protection. The figure consists of a ‘waste mould casting' made of metal (copper?). It is silver-plated and partly fire-gilt. First half of the 20th century; H: 23.5 cm. (ME)
