An old round shield made of hippopotamus or buffalo skin, probably used by the Dorze people. The shield displays a round shield boss at its centre, accentuated with the same material. The entire front surface of the shield is densely hallmarked with circular lines, crossed hatchings and spike patterns. With a robust cord edge and a semicircular, thick handle of leather on the back. With good, old usage patina and some, minor age damage on the front rim. DM: 54 cm to 55 cm.19th century. (ME)
