Two Ulm stools, designed by Max Bill in 1953 - Design

in collaboration with Hans Gugelot and Paul Hidinger, manufactured at the Ulm School of Design, reduced construction in glazed spruce, semi-concealed dovetail corner joints, beech cross bar, the sides with beech edges joined by tongue and groove, height approx. 45.5 cm, width approx. 40 cm, depth approx. 30 cm. This multifunctional piece of furniture can be used as a seat, stand, side table, serving tray, and box for transportation. Today its design is generally attributed to Max Bill, who drew the first sketch on a napkin. He subsequently developed the actual design and its realisation in collaboration with Hans Gugelot and the cabinetmaker Paul Hildinger.

Provenance:
According to a previous owner living in Ulm, these chairs were purchased together with others at the cabinetmaking workshop of the Ulm School of Design.
