Felix Haspel is an academically trained painter, sculptor, watercolourist and tapestry weaver. He was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna for over 25 years in the field of textile art. Felix Haspel has had a keen interest in desert areas since the 1980s.
Through numerous trips to North Africa and the North Indian deserts, he has been able to gain a detailed impression of them ‘in situ’. That experience has influenced his entire creative process and, more generally, his work as an artist. In addition to tapestries, he also makes sculptures and watercolours. For him, the process of weaving is like painting with wool. Prof. Felix Haspel lives and works in Vienna.
