The grand-nephew of Georg Waldmüller, Fritz Lach, studied at the Viennese Academy under Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels. Until the age of 32 he was an official of the First Danube-Steamboat-Company, and in 1890 became a port official who was responsible as a harbor recorder for the book keeping of the revenues in Orsova (Romania), later in Beograd and in Regensburg. He was a member of the Austrian Künstlerbund and of the Dürerbund and was considered the most significant watercolor artist after Rudolf von Alt. He dedicated himself mainly to landscape watercolors.
The present watercolors offered in this auction and in the following ones are professionally framed and belong to the most extensive Austrian private collection of high-quality works by the artist.
