Indonesia, Flores Island: A janus-headed stone figure.
A janus-headed ancestor- or guardian figure from Flores, in the Lesser Sunda Islands. Made of light-coloured stone, with two faces on top. Probably placed as a guardian figure in front of a village (probably an ‘ancestral couple’, female-male, back to back). Stone figures from Flores are very rare!
19th century or earlier. H: 66 cm. (ME)
